OOTD// Blinged up basics

For as long as time, diamonds have been a girls best friend and nothing has changed. Over the last couple of seasons, we have been blinging up lapels, collars and heels for a bit of extra sparkle. However this is all going to change for SS15. This season, it's going to be about pairing extravagant heirloom style jewels with worn out tees and military shirts. That slouchy knitted jumper you've been wearing all winter or the over sized shirt you've worn over and over are perfect canvases to add a wave of glamour and elegance to your everyday routine.

The idea is to look chic with a twist of glamour and freshness. Keep your ensemble simple. We've gone for a worn out gray tee with slouchy denims roll up jeans both from Topshop. To avoid the student hipster look, pair it with a pair of killer stilettos, giving a hint of elegance to your look. This clutch purse is perfect for an outfit like this; the neutral tones work well with the decorative jewellery and keeps it simple so that the main focus can be the jewels. The basic tee screams for some frosting, so we've gone for our beautiful launched only this week Aisha Statement Jewel Necklace. The jewels are light and fresh, perfect for day wear. The Heidi Pastel Jewel Bracelet works perfectly with the Aisha as the embellishment is similar light hues, but the leather cuff brings a day-wear feel to it. If you're an earring kind of girl, then go for something extravagant like our Aisha Statement Jewel Earrings. The classic tones worth beautifully with any basic ensemble. Finish with a slick application of a nude lippy to complete your blinged up basic look!

OOTD // NEW YEAR, NEW SEASON

Happy New Year everyone! Anybody else already given up on their resolution!? Ah well there's always next year!

With the new year comes new seasons and a chock load of new trends. Keeping up with all of them can be tricky, particularly if you're on a budget. Over the next couple of weeks we're going to show you how you can take transitional pieces from AW14 and style them for SS15, plus we'll be giving you an exclusive sneak peek at our SS15 styles coming soon!

The Lydia Jewel Encrusted Collar - as seen in Look magazine - has been a bestseller at Adorning Ava, and we're down to our last few pieces so get yours before they're gone! Heavily adorned with matte beads, sparkling crystals and creamy pearls, it's the perfect transitional statement necklace. Orange is set to be massive in SS15, so you'd be wise to stock up on whatever orange pieces you can find now before everyone else is after them!

You can't go far wrong with a maxi skirt for spring/summer. They ooze effortless style, and if you like to keep your legs covered but don't want to get too hot, they're an ideal garment to rush about in. Look for a light grey one to wear with anything and everything. We've paired ours up with a racer front white crop vest from River Island - it's certain to make your summer tan really stand out!

We love to match our make up with our accessories to really bring out the colours of the jewels. This Flare shade by Illamasqua is almost identical in colour to the Lydia Collar and will last you all day no matter how crazy your day is!

Like most retailers (including us!), Debenhams have a massive sale on right now. These bright orange sandals are seriously discounted and much better than flip flops if you're planning on walking around the shops for a while.

I'm a sucker for a clutch bag, but this grey mini satchel is too good to ignore! Light grey can be easily matched with any outfit, and the gold chain and buckle accents add an extra something to the design. River Island also make this bag in black if grey just isn't your thing.

Finally, add your favourite pair of sunnies for some added cool factor. We adore our Round Tortoise Shell Sunglasses with a vintage feel and flattering shape. Plus they're in the sale right now for £3.99! Bargain!

Don't forget to check back for more ideas on transitional pieces and an exclusive preview at our SS15 collection.

Happy New Year!

OOTD // LIPSY LOVE

You may have heard by now that our jewellery is also stocked online with Lipsy. Here in the office we're a big fan of the brand, particularly their range with Corrie's Michelle Keegan! We've had a nosy at their current collection and pulled together the perfect outfit for your Christmas Eve or Boxing Day drinks.

We love a good pair of black leggings - they're a little smarter than jeans and much more comfortable. These PU Biker Leggings are super slick and will instantly take a simple top from drab to fab. The stitched detailing on the knees sets them apart from your usual run-of-the-mill wet look leggings and will most definitely give your outfit an edgy feel.

Michelle Keegan's range features a selection of tops for any occasion, from camis, to peplums, to blouses. This Racer Cami in champagne gold is easy to throw on but will provide you with an instantly glam look. The strappy back makes it perfect for the heat of summer, but it also looks great with a fluffy fur coat for winter!

It seems the leather look is one of Michelle's go to styles, as she's also added this sleek PU Sleeve Fur Coat to her collection! It'll match perfectly with any ensemble whilst still keeping you wrapped up over the winter months. We love the quilted effect on the cuffs!

Blue has been a huge colour trend this season, and it gives a royal effect when mixed with gold. Our Sadie Navy Leather Jewel Bracelet can be wrapped round as few or as many times as you like, with an adjustable buckle to keep it in place. The gold settings around the crystals will match up with your gold cami top, and add some extra shine.

Our Nia Jewel Drop Earrings will complete your whole look, tying in with the colour of each garment and your blue leather bracelet. They're lightweight, so no need to worry about your ear lobes getting weighed down! Best of all? You can get both pieces for £15 all in!

Every shoe lover has their favourite pair of trusty black heels. Make these amazing Lipsy peep toe Monica Shoe Boot Heels your new staple pair - the perfect cross between a dressy stiletto and classic boot. They'll work well with trousers or a dress, so you can wear them for years to come!

For the final touch, add a shimmering nude shade nail polish to tone with your top, like this Vanilla colour from Mavala. If you fancy going that extra mile, sultry smoky black eye with a hint of blue or gold will really glam you up!

We hope you all have an amazing Christmas, and don't forget to head over to our social media pages for your final chance to win our HUGE £150 giveaway! We'll be announcing the winner on Christmas day!

Merry Christmas!

HOW TO STYLE // THE NAVY TREND

Navy seems to be everywhere this season, with Cheap Monday and Temperley London both featuring the blue hue throughout their AW14 catwalk collections, but navy can seem a little daunting to style. Previously, mixing black and navy has been deemed as one of the ultimate fashion no-no's, like wearing pink and red together, making it difficult to know what colours to wear navy with. However this year, the tables have turned and every other designer was seen showing how to style the colours together effortlessly. We're here to show you how you can do the same!

If you're not quite ready for wearing all black and navy, breaking up the colours with other monochromatic shades is a good way to ease yourself into the trend. Adding hints of navy through your make up and accessories will be sure to keep you on trend and add muted pop of colour into any outfit, day or night. We've styled our Lena Navy Floral Jewel Collar - a steal at just £14 - with nail polish to match. Try matte polish for the day, or metallic for the night!

Every girl should own a crisp white shirt, whether you wear them for work or play. We love the embellished collar on this shirt to help add even more sparkle to your neckline. If you want to recreate the same look, why not try taking an old piece of jewellery and applying it to the collar of one of your old shirts?

Black leggings are another must have item for any wardrobe, particularly in the autumn/winter season. Purchase thick pairs (think jeggings style) that will not only keep you warm across the winter months, but also flatter any figure. If you'd prefer something a little different, look out for pairs with quilted, snakeskin or mesh inserts like the ones we've chosen.

Fur gilets are perfect for autumn/winter - both a statement garment and sure to keep you cosy! Pick one up in grey for a versatile piece of outerwear. We also adore these grey Vans slip ons; they're so easy to wear - not as casual as lace ups and simple to dress up. Add a classic black leather bag and your favourite silver watch to complete the look. We know we'll be rocking the navy trend with pride this season!

HOW TO WEAR // STATEMENT EARRINGS

We've been wearing earrings for hundreds of years - even Tutankhamun had his ears pierced! But that doesn't make it any easier to work out how to wear different shapes and styles. From studs to chandeliers, identifying your face shape can help you know which earrings you can wear best, just like it affects the type of hairstyles you'll be best suited to. If you're still confused don't worry; Adorning Ava HQ are here to help!

OVAL

If you have an oval face, then you're in earring heaven! Oval faces are versatile to practically all styles, although soft shapes tend to work better than geometric. When wearing longer pieces, try to pick a pair with a little width to them to complement your face shape. Our Aurea Oversize Pastel Jewel Earrings are perfect, mixing both length and width with both soft and geometric shapes combined.

ROUND

For those of you with round faces, short earrings such as chunky studs can sometimes work against you. Long, dangle earrings however will help to elongate the face and enhance your cheekbones. Who'd have thought earrings could give you a face lift!? Unlike oval faces however, you should stick to styles which have more length than width. Why not try our Multi Jewel Chandelier Earrings to glam up your outfit on your next night out?

HEART

Celebrities with heart-shaped faces include Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars and Taylor Swift, so if you've got one too you can count yourself to be in good company! With structured jawlines and pointed chins, earrings which are wider at the bottom than at the top will help to balance out your face shape and draw attention to your eyes. Slender at the top and chunky at the bottom, our Ava Vintage Jewel Earrings are a perfect match for your face, and they're gorgeous!

SQUARE

If you have a strong jawline and structured cheekbones, you share the same face shape as Angelina Jolie. Square faces can be softened with hoop earrings and round shapes, with a medium to long length. We adore these Zaria Pearl Hoop Earrings - the perfect length with plenty of embellishment!

NARROW

Narrow or oblong faces are best suited to a lot of volume when it comes to hairstyles, and the same goes for earrings. Wearing heavily embellished short dangle earrings will draw attention to the eyes and make your face look less narrow. Our Nina Pastel Jewel Earrings are the perfect pastel shade for this season and will balance out your facial features well.

DIAMOND

Ashley Greene and Vanessa Hudgens both have diamond-shaped faces - cheekbones are the widest part of the face, with a pointed chin and a forehead that tapers at the hairline. If this sounds like a match for you, earrings with more width than length will complement your shape. Short but chunky studs, like our Bright Jewel Cluster Earrings, will look stunning on you and help to enhance your cheekbones.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK // THE RUN DOWN

Once again the designers at NYFW have wowed us all, with out-of-this-world shows and designs to die for. From Ralph Lauren's soft safari look, to Jeremy Scott's bold hippy prints, there's a trend for everyone next season. Here at Adorning Ava we're giving you the run down of SS15's top trends to watch out for and the designers you should be keeping an eye on.

WONDERFUL WHITES

NYFW saw an array of designers carrying the white trend through from AW14 into SS15, with each of them taking a different approach. Erin Fetherston printed vintage themed florals over brilliant whites to create a clean, feminine style - perfect for any garden party. Michael Kors showed us a slightly different interpretation, using floral cut outs over matching white mesh, and adding daisy-esque appliques over floaty midi skirts.

White isn't just a big trend in clothing though, with oversized blooming rings and creamy pearls expected to make an appearance in next season's jewellery. For the perfect pearly piece with a floral hint, our Ayla White Pearl & Jewel Encrusted Necklace definitely deserves a peek at.

SAFARI CHIC

Models took to the catwalk in shades of mustard and khaki, paired with splashes of magenta, cobalt and violet. Ralph Lauren took a  more direct approach to this trend, showing lightweight jackets and trousers covered in utility pockets, alongside sultry silk shirts in hot pink, powerful purple and summer yellow; whereas Osklen models owned the runway with a more modern twist on safari chique. His designs focused more heavily on shades of khaki, sand and white, with clean lines and PVC inserts providing a unique take on the trend. Colour could be seen on his palm and jungle print coordinates and high-waisted skirts and tailored trousers.

Transparency can also be found in SS15's accessories, with chunky perspex bangles and ever-adorned perspex-backed necklaces making a big comeback. Check out our Lexi Clear Perspex Jewel Necklace for a statement piece to carry you through from AW14 into the new year.

SEA BREEZE

Keeping the idea of summer holidays in mind, oceanic shades of blue against shimmering metallics created a dreamy atmosphere across a sea of catwalk models. Our personal favourites for this colour scheme were the king of tailoring Hugo Boss and red carpet favourite Pamella Roland. Boss' models strutted in mini a-line skirts, racer-front fitted midi dresses and crisp shirts in powder blue and navy, whilst Roland's appeared to float down the runway in navy numbers and reflective silver styles.

Your sure to get many a wear out of our transitional Lola Cobalt & Teal Jewel Necklace as it takes you from this season's blue trend and straight into the next.

GO BOLD OR GO HOME

After the dark tones of the autumn/winter season, it's always nice to dress up in some bold brights when the sun starts to come out again. But this year, colours and prints are getting bigger and better than ever, with '70s and '80s vibes being thrown into the mix. Jeremy Scott blew away the crowds and probably blinded the frow with his bright hippy prints, from tie dye oversized t-shirts to far out floral dresses. Although his collection seemed mostly focused on the '70s Woodstock theme, he introduced a few slogan print pieces with an '80s feel - and he's not the only one. Marc by Marc Jacobs took this statement trend by storm with a vast array of slogan tees and punchy polkadots.

The key to this trend? Colour, colour and more colour. Head on over to our Colour Crush trend page to see pieces like this Statement Bright Jewel Necklace and get your colour fix.

That's it for our NYFW run down, but keep an eye out for our AW14 trend tracker and join us over the coming weeks as we follow London Fashion Week and the British Fashion Awards!
