OOTD// Spiritual Symbols!

One jewellery trend that has been increasing in momentum for the last few seasons is the introduction of ethnic, cultural symbols.

The most popular used in modern day fashion statements!

1. The HAMSA: The Hamsa Hand (Arabic) or Hamesh (Hebrew) is an old apotropaic amulet, which is supposed to hold magical protection to the owner.

2. The EVIL EYE: The Nazar or Evil Eye os over 5000 years old. It is found in all major religions and through many cultures. It is believed that the eye protects it's owner from evil spirits and the ill will of others. It is worn as jewellery or directly on the body.

3. The ANKH:  The ankh also known as breath of life or the key of the Nile was the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic character that read "life". It represents eternal life, which is the general meaning of the symbol. The Egyptian Gods and Pharaohs are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest. The ankh appears in hand or in proximity of almost every deity in the Egyptian pantheon.

4. The CRUCIFIX: The Christian symbol which represents Jesus Christ sacrifice for us and the redemption of mankind. Traditionally it is found with a body of Christ incorporated in it, but this has been recreated within the fashion world for a more embellished and Gothic feel to the symbol.

We will be flaunting these quirky spiritual pieces that have just landed at Adorning Ava this Summer. The Jada Gold Tassel Hamsa Necklace is part of our 70s collection, perfect for any festivals this summer or even a night on the town. It's glamorous as well as oozing the right amount of coolness and individuality.

The Evil Eye Stud Earrings are perfect as a little extra detail to an outfit and will work if you mix it up with other symbol studs and the more piercings up the ear, the better the look. These pieces are very cultural, so it's time to embrace the spiritual siren in you!

Pair them with clashing prints, fringing and loose clothing for a real bohemian look in the day time.

In the evening, go for something a little less authentic. keep it simple and chic for a glamorous alternative.
